History
Here is the curriculum intent for History
At Elm Wood Primary School, our History curriculum aims to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know and explore more about the past. It engages all children and allows them to develop their investigative and reflective skills, develop an appreciation and understanding of the past and gives them the skills required to explore their own interests. We want our children to embrace and celebrate being an integral part of our local school history and share with us their own family history as we believe it is important for children to have a sense of identity and to know how history has shaped their own lives.
Children will be taught the rich heritage of the area that they live and the significant people from their locality that have impacted British history. It will help them understand the process of change over time and significant developments. We aim to enable children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Our historians will be given a variety of experiences both in and out of the classroom to create memorable learning opportunities and to further support and develop their understanding.
